Giving a much-needed boost to the local economy, 50 new job openings have been created following a £6 million contract between Townfield Care and Lancashire County Council over the next four years.
Townfield Care, renowned for their quality of service in the care industry, are passionate about improving the perception of a support worker and developing better contracts for their employees.
The 50 new jobs will cover the increase for Townfield Care to 135,000 hours a year for care work throughout the local area. Townfield Care will stabilise and improve conditions for homecare workers and are also moving towards providing a living wage for employees. This ideal is one step closer through the new contract, which is providing a guarantee of working hours.
John Timmins, Director of Townfield Care, said: “We are committed to improving the contracts of our home care support workers, we want to give our staff job security and in turn this means keeping our standard of care high. Our aim is to improve quality of life through our services, creating personalised care plans that take into account the needs of the individual.”
Currently there are over 30 care providers in the area, which has meant continuity and quality of service is not assured. Lancashire County Council are working to consolidate and improve services which has led to Townfield Care being handed the opportunity to expand. With over 35 years’ experience, plus being a family run company, they are in an ideal position to make a real difference in the community, through providing new job opportunities and maintaining their high quality of service.
Working closely with Accrington and Rossendale College, who offer courses in Healthcare support, Townfield Care are opening their doors to applicants primarily in the Rossendale area. They are also happy to receive applications from Hyndburn and Ribble Valley areas. Their apprenticeship route means employees can gain qualifications and study whilst earning a wage and gaining experience with a company who are focused on quality.
Charlotte Scheffmann, Assistant Principal of Accrington and Rossendale College, said: “We are delighted to be working with John and his team at Townfield Care. It has opened doors for so many of our students. Our newer students can gain real work experience, whilst our more established are able to get jobs that fit around study. The apprenticeship roles are also really exciting as it means the students will be learning with some of the best in the industry.”
Townfield Care specialise in residential care, home care and dementia care whilst also recently opening a mobility shop in Hyndburn.
Friday the 13th October was a lucky night for many of Townfield Care employees.
It was the The 4th Annual Townfield Care awards, the awards are designed to recognise and reward special achievements by the employees. Held at Great Harwood Golf Club, the evening was hosted by BBC radio Lancashire’s Stephen Lowe
Townfield Care run by brothers Michael and John Timmins, operates Townfield & Coach House, a specialist dementia care home in Great Harwood, Sherwood House, a small residential home for the elderly in Rishton, an expanding home care service throughout Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Rossendale and a newly opened mobility Shop in Great Harwood.
Michael Timmins said “The awards have been another fantastic success, we introduced them to ensure that our staff are recognised for the brilliant job that they do. We have had another really successful year as a company and that really is down to the hard work and dedication of the care teams”

To meet the growing need for home care within Lancashire, Townfield Care is looking to recruit up more home care staff this year.

Townfield & Coach House on Church Street in Great Harwood has been undergoing a redesign over the past month, the care home which specialised in caring for older people who have dementia or other memory problems.
The main lounge has been redesigned based on guidance provided by the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Sterling. The design has modernised the lounge and also meant that the area is now a dementia friendly space with good lighting, comfortable seating and a relaxing and engaging atmosphere for anyone with dementia to relax.
Kath Howard, Registered Manager said “The Lounge is a lovely space to relax in and we have already had some really positive feedback from both the residents and their visitors. We are always improving the living environment at our care homes. We use the nationally accredited guidance from the University of Sterling to ensure the home is suited for people with dementia. We have used colour coded décor and furnishings, to help our residents to distinguish between different areas within the home and also to feel at home in spaces that they use regularly.

Our Brand-New store, Townfield Care Mobility, has opened in Great Harwood. With products ranging from mobility scooters to easy can openers, to help people have the best quality of life possible.
Run by brothers, Michael and John Timmins, Townfield Care is a family-owned company that has been providing residential and at-home care services in the Hyndburn area for over 35 years. Our focus has always been, and will always be, providing personalised care and improving quality of life.
We plan to use our expertise and experience to open our first ever mobility and daily living aid store at 79 Church Street in Great Harwood, to further improve the quality of peoples’ lives; particularly those who live independently at home, and those who receive in-home care.

Townfield and Coach House Care Ltd requires a suitably experienced person to work within in our Residential Home, Townfield & Coach House, Church Street, Great Harwod.
The applicant must have proven experience in care and leading a team, NVQ/Diploma level 3 in Health and Social Care is preferred but we will consider applicants with level 2 or equivalent who are willing to work towards the Level 3.
Duties include personal care, administering of medication, housekeeping, attending to service users social care needs, working as part of a team, communicating with relevant medical professionals, updating care records and communicating with relatives. Successful applicants are required to provide an enhanced disclosure CRB. Disclosure expense will be met by applicant.

Townfield house and Sherwood house have refreshed our 6 steps to success in end of life care programme.
6 steps is a course run by East Lancashire hospice which guides us to ensure we continue providing high quality end of the life care. The course covers Communication, Discussions as end of life approaches, Holistic Assessment and Care planning, Co-ordinating End of life care, Care in the last days and hours of life and Care after Death.
